ME and CFS Symptoms

CFS/ME is very different from any 'normal' tiredness that you have experienced before.  You feel completely drained and your limbs are so heavy you would think you had elephants attached making it impossible to do day to day things. CFS/ME may happen over several months or years and your health may deteriorate.

CFS/ME makes you less able to cope with levels of activity that were previously normal for you, in your work, school or social life. Even everyday physical activity, such as taking a shower or bath, may make you feel exhausted.

I killed to use my GHD's the aches in my arms were enough to make me scream out loud with pain and I pushed on thinking that I was weak, or a wuss in honesty not realising I was making it worse!!

Common symptoms of CFS/ME, which can happen 24 to 48 hours after mental or physical activity, include:
  1. fatigue that lasts more than 24 hours after exertion at a level that you used to be able to manage without feeling tired
  2. muscle and joint pain, but no swelling
  3. painful glands in your neck, back or armpits
  4. a sore throat and headaches
  5. forgetfulness, memory loss, confusion, or difficulty concentrating and Brain Fog
  6. sleep disturbances - waking up feeling tired or unrested or having trouble getting to sleep
  7. flu-like symptoms
  8. palpitations (the sensation of feeling your heartbeat thumping in your chest)
  9. dizziness and nausea
  10. sweating
  11. visible muscle twitching
  12. irritable bowel syndrome symptoms such as constipation or diarrhoea and bloating
  13. mood swings
  14. Insomnia
  15. Anxiety
  16. depression
  17. Panic Attacks
  18. Restless leg syndrome
  19. Painful Periods
  20. Candida
Your symptoms may vary throughout the day - some days they may be mild and other days more troublesome.

Most people with CFS/ME find that their symptoms come and go, often returning after illness or stress.
